Deep condition: Curly hair = Thirsty hair

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Yes you heard that right! Deep conditioning your hair at least once a week is crucial for Soft, Gorgeous and Shiny hair.

We all want hair that blows gently in the wind as opposed to dry and crispy noodle-like hair that does not move. Yikes!

Moisture helps curls, curl better.

Deep conditioning is going to give your hair intense moisture that will help you have great curls for days or even weeks at a time. It was also one the top things I did when I was transitioning back from chemically straightened and coloured hair, to my natural hair.

Here are some of my favourites you could try out.

TIP:

1. CHOOSE A RICH CONDITIONER Find one that’s rich and thick.

2. LAY IT ON THICK

Apply on damp/wet hair and don’t leave one curl uncovered. Focus on hair ends

3. COVER IT UP

To avoid having product getting all over you, slip on a shower cap. You can also wrap your hair in plastic wrap or a warm, damp towel.

4. HEAT IT UP

For best results, you need some heat to help open the cuticle of the hair so the conditioner penetrates in. Try sitting in a steamy bath or shower or by using a blow dryer over your cap-covered head.

5. AVOID DEEP CONDITIONING LONGER THAN RECOMMENDED USE

Too much of Moisture can cause Moisture overload, Hygral Fatigue (Excessive swelling of the hair cuticle). Follow instructions on product packaging.

6. BALANCE OUT WITH PROTEIN

If hair feels overly moisturised, balance it with protein infused products or treatment

I am not a strict Curly Girl Method follower(CGM). I do a modified version and add or remove certain products from my list accordingly to how my hair reacts to them.

How? You will learn it in the process. Just pay attention and avoid switching 10 different products in 1 week. Test and experiment with a product for about a month at least,

before you decide if it is working for you or not. Some products here are not CGM approved. So if you are strict on CGM, do on the ingredients using www.isitcg.com.
